Rapid Fire: Freshly Squeezed (youth Rapid Fire) - Midsumma 2012

Submitted by roz on Wed, 21/12/2011 - 10:42am

12 Writers – 25 and under – 6 minutes each.

With more than 20 incarnations at festivals including Midsumma, Melbourne Writers Festival, Next Wave, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, World Gay Games 2002, Darebin Writers Festival and Melbourne Fringe (where it won the 1998 Writers Award), Rapid Fire has been the proving ground for many of our best known local queer writers.

Rapid Fire's recipe for success is simple: give 12 writers six minutes each to read, with the order drawn from a hat on the night; and ensure that merciless writer-wranglers are on hand to get them off the stage quickly if they go over time. This formula provides the perfect platform for writers to refine, condense and edit a story, while providing ample time to display their literary brilliance. A win for writers and the audience alike.

This very special version of Rapid Fire offers brand new writers, and a couple of young prodigies already published to get their start as writers, poets, prose makers, ranters, play makers, trouble makers and discourse creators. Join us and support the younger in the queer community as they get their word on. Auslan interpreters upon request.
