Wyndham Council's Youth Advisory Group

  • Wyndham Council will be starting up a Youth Advisory Group to assist in organising a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning support group for Term 1, 2012.

'Teaching Diversities' Report released!

  • Last Friday, Victoria University in collaboration with the Centre for Multicultural Youth launched the report: 'Teaching Diversities: Same Sex-Attracted Young People, CALD communities and Arts based Community Education'.

    The research report was developed through community consultation with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) young people on their experiences of sexual diversity and homophobia.

    Young people and service providers were consulted on the needs of SSA young people from emerging cultural backgrounds, specifically intergenerational conflict and ideas for arts-based community education about same sex attraction within CALD communities, including arts-based best practice models to achieve the project aims.

LGBTI Advisory Group for Melbourne's West

  • An advisory group has been set up in Melbourne's West to advocate for the local LGBTI community. The Hobsons Bay committee will contribute to the development of policies as well as advise the Council on the needs and interest of the local LGBTI community.

    In recent years, Hobsons Bay Council has taken on a number of initiatives supporting sexual and gender diversity including releasing a report on LGBTI issues with recommendations for Council staff training and LGBTI literature for Council libraries.

    Hobsons Bay has also funded the development of a rainbow families resource for primary school students.

Sexual Diversity in Victoria's Aboriginal Community

    Community Grants are coming soon- so start thinking about how you could use the money!

    Mind the Gap/ SHADE (Sexual Health and Diversity Enterprise) community grants are designed to support innovative and creative projects encouraging young people to think about the choices they make about their sexual health and to celebrate sexual diversity in rural and regional areas!

    Grants are only open to organisations that target young gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer people aged 25 and under in rural and regional Victoria only, with a focus on the Barwon South West, Grampians, Mallee and Central Goldfields.
