Speakers Bureau

There are currently 21 social support groups for same sex attracted young people in Victoria. In addition to this there are 6 gay straight alliance groups operating in secondary schools around the state. These groups organise a wide range of activities, often led or organised by their young members.

A frequent request to the Rainbow Network from these groups is to be put in touch with relevant guest speakers who are either experts in a particular field, or have personal experiences that they are willing to share and to answer questions on a particular topic. Workers and young people are often looking for someone who can attend a group session, give a short presentation or talk and stick around to answer questions or chat more informally with the group.

The aim of the Rainbow Network Speakers Bureau is to make it easier for groups to find and organise speakers and to assist workers or volunteers whose role involves reaching out to, providing information for, or involving young people.
